WELCOME TO THE SPACE hero worlds of Serena Spacey!
Serena only writes one thing, an interconnected universe of space heroes and their romances. She started this pen name just so that readers would know what to expect in each of her book series, collections, or single books. It’s all one big universe, and while some rules are different, others are universal from book to book, like the hero name, Champion Adventurer.
Sometimes her heroes cross into other hero domains, but mainly they stay in their own series. Her series are all refreshing, and she strives for awesome hero aliens that aren’t just ‘abducting’ someone. They are there to help, and yes, even some heroines are partners or play the hero in the books instead. Her heroes range from alien shifters, to heroes in training, to cybernetic heroes, and more.
Each book also contains a sex scene or two. Maybe three.
There are even dictionaries in the back for quick terms across all books, and one for just the series you are reading so have fun.
Introduction
~Alicia~
At the age of nine, I was getting a little freedom from the tiny backyard explosions. We would be watching the fireworks display, and I was given permission to go visit with my best friend Candace for a little while. Her family was only a few vehicles away.
That’s when I first saw him. He wore jeans and a yellow muscle shirt. His hair was wild, the result of the July winds that night. He wasn’t muscular, just a kid like me, but he had a strange scar along his nose. He was lying on top of the hood with his arms behind his head.
“This is my cousin,” Candace said as she gestured to him. “Hey, scoot over, we want to see too.” Candace pushed me towards the car, and I got on the hood. Candace sat on the top of the car while I laid side by side next to her friend.
“Hey,” he said. “Good to meet you, Alicia. Happy Birthday.”
I looked at him. Candace obviously told him about me, but she didn’t give me his name. I waited a second since she was just on top, but she was too distracted, and I didn’t want to be rude. “Uh, thanks, Mister Fourth of July.”
He laughed, unoffended. All three of us watched the fireworks that night. I didn’t say another word to him until it was time to go. I hopped off the hood, joining Candace on the ground. I gave her a gentle hug goodbye and promised to see her in school tomorrow. For Mister Fourth of July, I gave him a wave, and he gave a slight nod of his head. Then I guess for a joke, he blew a bubble out of his mouth. I chuckled and so did he.
It was a onetime thing, and I didn’t expect to see him again. He should have been one of those strangers you get to know for a night, but never recall.
~Mister Fourth of July~
I was just hanging’ out with my cousin Candace at the fairground when I saw her again from last year. Alicia Alamillo. Girls weren’t my life yet, back then. I felt something the first time, but I thought it was in my head. I was too young for what I had been feeling, so I ignored it and barely talked to her that year. This time, I felt that same weird connection again. I didn’t know what it was until I became older. All I knew at that moment was I wanted to know her better. She was wearing a pink T-shirt, some pink flowered flip flops, and a pair of bike shorts. It wasn’t anything special, but I don’t know.
Then again, she was an Earthling. An exotic type, born on the origin planet many had come from. The first time I came had been only as a type of vacation with my parents. Originally a small ancient holiday, the Fourth of July was chosen as the day Earth expanded into living in its first colony. From there came more colonies, then planets, and then moving into other galaxies.
Very few of the original people still existed. The ones that were a hundred percent Earthling, no other kind of DNA inside of them. They only existed on Earth. At first, I thought that was what triggered my reactions.
When I told my parents I somehow had a bubble come out of my mouth around her, they knew. They had already set up my cousin Candace’s family to host me one day, once a year. To celebrate.
That’s because they knew what I hadn’t. Bubbles meant I’d already found the one I was destined to have. There might be more who caused bubbles, but they would be rare.
Earth was a neutral zone. Villains couldn’t invade, and heroes couldn’t invade it. So, my family already knew it was risky to say anything else about it. They only hoped that as I grew up and kept attending the festivities, that one day the Earthling would love me back.
Because if not? I would grow up and save worlds hundreds of times over, but I would probably never feel that same connection to someone.
They kept that secret from everyone though.
Including me back then.

~Mister Fourth of July~
Candace jumped straight up to the top of the car. She jumped too hard and got criticized by her mom on the inside of the car.
“Come on over, Alicia,” Candace called to her friend. She wanted her to sit up at the top, but I hoped she didn’t go.
Instead, she hopped on the hood and laid down beside me. “That will hurt my neck, you should come down here.”
“Whatever,” Candace complained. “Lay next to Mister Fourth of July then.”
I looked up towards Candace. “Your friend’s just got taste, Candace. The hood is better.” I held out my hand to her. “Hey, Alicia, was it?” She accepted my handshake and broke into a smile. The curves of her mouth showed some dimples. Just like that, I was glad I came.
“Hey again, Mister Fourth of July,” she said to me. Yep, I still had the nickname.
“So, Alicia, Candace tells me that you want to be an artist,” I asked her. “What kind?”
“Computer design.”
“Oh, cool. Computers are cool. That’s cool.” I rubbed my head and realized I wasn’t coming off as good as I had wanted.
“Oh so cool,” Candace teased me making it worse. “It’s all cool. Everything’s cool. Fireworks are cool.”
“Shut up Candace,” I warned her.
The rest of the night, we didn’t talk to each other much. When the fireworks were over, her family arrived with their car beside ours. Alicia gave a brief wave to me as she hopped down off the hood.
“See you next year,” I said, trying t
o beat out the occasional nod I gave her last year.
I watched as her mom chuckled from their car. “He seems particularly nice. It’s quite warm out here, isn’t it? Let’s go home, and maybe your cheeks will stop glowing red.”
“Mom,” Alicia whined. I didn’t blame her. I was kind of blushing too, but I didn’t have anyone pointing it out.
After they had left, Candace shouldered me. “You were blushing too.”
Well, I thought I didn’t have anyone to point it out.
Colony: A111111: First!
I was eating my breakfast, getting ready to go down for Earth for the Fourth of July. It was the only time we could come down. Well, I mean technically, we got to visit one day a year on Earth. Earth was very . . . Earth-centric? Centuries ago, some people believed that as people of Earth moved out and among the stars, found new species to exchange technology with, and expand that Earthlings would be phased out. Therefore, a bunch of people signed and willed themselves to stay and keep themselves traditionally ‘pure’. They didn’t use any of the new technology that came from other worlds or colonies. Overall? It was kind of . . . boring. I guess it was a neat way to see into the past, but the only fun thing was basically getting to see Alicia again. Oh, and family. It was the only time we could see our family that lived there.
“Finish up, we are going soon,” my mother reminded me. “Your Aunt Cheryl is eager to see you again. She heard about your progress so far.”
Yep. I was already starting to master water elements. I was going to be a mixed elemental hero one day. If I controlled ice too, then I’d be a winter elemental. My dad couldn’t control ice either. That didn’t make him any less of a hero though. He was awesome and brave, the perfect dad a kid could have.
I showed off my passed on skill by stirring the liquid in my breakfast. The liquid though, started to go out of control for some reason. What did that mean? I heard someone call out my dad’s name, and I found myself face to face with some of my dad’s worst enemies.
Five of them. In front of me and my mom. Even at my age, I knew what that meant.
I tried to keep it together as my mother and I were tied up and sat on the grass. I watched my dad. He had done his best, but when enemies team up, even heroes could be beaten. I heard my dad call my name. He spoke firmly, trying to keep himself together.
“Don’t let this change you, Son.”
Those words would stay with me forever as I watched the villains strapping dangerous firearms all over him. They tied him up on a pole, and I knew what would happen. I wanted to grab my mom, but I knew that wouldn’t do me any good. I needed to be strong for her. I looked toward her, seeing her eyes shining with tears. The national day of freedom, of celebrating the freedom from Earth. It became the day . . . they turned my own father into a firecracker.
My powers couldn’t help, and he refused to use his. My mom and I were at stake and his Adventurer friends were so far away. All he could do was recommend other things to add to the mix when he went up into the sky, to make the spectacle bigger. He was telling him how to kill him in even flashier ways, just to stall for the time. To make sure me and mom would be safe, and maybe even him.
I hoped him. Eventually though, they stopped tying things to him. I heard the fuse. They placed it all the way by mom, and stayed by us the entire time, not getting close to him. All the civilians stayed out of the way too.
That fuse. I wanted the sound to end, but I didn’t at the same time. When it ended.
At first, all I could see were many colors moving through. Reds, greens, blues, and then my mom broke free to cover my eyes.
I heard him, like a traditional Earth roman candle.
Then I heard my mother scream. She was starting to lose it, and I tried to hang on as they said I was next. As they pulled me away from my mom though, I watched them suddenly fall over. Dead.
“Got you, kid!”
My dad’s allies. They were too late for him, but they made it still for me.
AFTER THAT, CHILDHOOD felt over. Mom signed me up for the best hero school she could find. My vacations to Earth as Mister Fourth of July were now over. For years, I honed my skills. I graduated with top marks, and I became a great Champion Adventurer, a mixed elemental, just like my dad. When I become the Guardian of First!, I was able to influence many things. I made several bans against the dynamite, gun powder, and any dangerous elements for celebrating that traditional Earthlings continued to use. None of the festive pieces from Earth were allowed in the colonies without special permissions. I also made sure that every year, more than one hero was there. Going after the first colony could become traditional. More than my dad lost his life back then. On the Fourth of July, there were at least ten heroes there. Instead of thinking of it as a duty though, I did the same thing my cousin Candace used to do.
I threw a pool party. Sometimes, I even had more than ten heroes that were showing up now. Basically, if they were nearby and not on-call, my colony First! was the colony to visit. No villain would ever find First! caught off guard on that special day again.
While the years moved on, I almost forgot about the intriguing girl, but my mom wouldn’t let me. My father's words burned into mom, the same way they did into me.
Don’t let this change you, Son. Those words. I could defeat enemies left and right, help save worlds and colonies when I needed to, but he must have known. When it came to real explosives, I had been traumatized, and I had to face it. To be a better hero, I had to learn to accept and not dodge what I was afraid of.
So? At the age of eighteen, I had to go back to the Earth for the Fourth of July again.
Chapter Two: Eighteen
Earth
~Alicia~
Several years had passed before I saw Mister Fourth of July again. I honestly thought I never would. Candace’s family decided to have a small Fourth of July get together, and I had been invited. It took some convincing to my dad that I could go, especially on my eighteenth birthday, but my mother didn’t mind at all. I was two years past the Age of Social Independence. That meant with parental permission I could now drive, date, or even get married. I was still considered a ‘girl’ though and I would until the Age of Independence. 24.
When I reached Candace’s house, the door was already propped open. People I didn’t know were coming in and out. I looked inside for Candace and found her fixing the table. “Hey, Candace.”
“Alicia.” Candace smiled as she set down a fork. “I am getting everything ready to eat. I’m glad you could come; this is going to be fun. We always have a party before we go out, but this is the first year I got to invite you. I’m glad your parents let you come.”
“It was tough, dad almost didn’t let me come,” I sighed. Dad had the hardest time letting me grow up. On my birthday this morning, he got me a present with colorful pony wrapping paper. I was mortified. If it hadn’t been for my mom’s power of persuasion, there’s no way I could have come. It’s not like I was going to mess up. I wasn’t going to get drunk, do drugs or get with a boy.
“Do you want a piece of watermelon?” Candace asked. “It’s really good, and we still have a little while before we eat.” She gestured to the kitchen. “Now go get some watermelon from my cousin Vinnie before it runs out, seriously it’s in season, and it’s so good.”
I nodded and headed to the kitchen. Someone was cutting watermelon. Someone . . . different. He must have been around my age, but he had muscle and a toned figure. He must have been a gym guy. That just made me more nervous. Weightlifting or running, I couldn’t help but wonder. His legs looked tough, but it was harder to see because he was wearing long shorts. His hair was a brown tussle, a familiar color.
Then when he turned around, I knew exactly who it had been. Vinnie must have been Mister Fourth of July. “Vinnie?”
~Mister Fourth of July~
I knew that voice. I turned to look back, and my breath left me. Alicia. She was wearing a hot pink shirt with a red butterfly stitched on it. The s
hirt was sleeveless, it was only held up with a tie on the back, and her front. It was front wear. She had a front now. That cute girl that was cute and made me feel bubbles in my stomach? She wasn’t just cute anymore and I felt more than bubbles in my stomach. Her legs were longer, she was taller, and her brunette hair looked so soft. Her eyes were a brilliant blue hue I don’t think I ever saw clearly from the dark.
Her expression changed for some reason as she suddenly seemed concerned about me. She rushed over and looked at my hand. Oops. I was so distracted by her; I had cut myself. It wasn’t anything major. I’ve been in the hospital worse from my career as a Champion Adventurer. A regular Earth man though would do something. I grabbed my finger. “Ow?”
“Sorry,” she apologized. “I distracted you.”
“No, sorry,” I apologized for her sorry. “Alicia, I didn’t know you’d be here at the party.” She went over toward the paper towels and wetted them, placing them over my finger. I stared at her as she moved to help me. “Thank you. You surprised me.”
“Yeah, I didn’t know your name before, I just always called you Mister Fourth of July,” she admitted. “Sorry.”
“We were twelve. I’m happy you even remember me. You’re right though, it’s Vinnie.” I tried to keep my voice tempo under control. “So. You’re eighteen now.” I scratched my neck. “Did you want some watermelon?”
“That’s what I came for,” she said. “Instead, I had to play nurse because I snuck up on you. I’m sorry.”
“Well you’re skilled at it, maybe you’ll be a nurse one day. Oh wait, you said you wanted to be in computer design. Are you still into that?”
“Yeah, I guess?” She shrugged. “I can’t believe you remembered that. I like art.”
“I do too. I mean, it’s okay.” I didn’t know a ton of it. What I did know wasn’t Earthling art. I tried to think of something artistic to say that she would recognize from Earth. “Dali’s great his whole thing with abstraction was great I mean.” Yeah, I couldn’t even pretend that well. “Watermelon, I better get you that slice.” I reached over for a plate and a plastic spoon. I placed a slice of watermelon on it, being mindful of my new injury. My blood started red but slowly turned blue after drying. I didn’t need her seeing that. “Here you go. Are you staying for dinner and the fireworks?”
